Is what you are doing worth it?

Is what you are doing worth it?

Our friend and mentor Marcus Aurelius, emperor of Rome liked to remind himself,

“NOTHING IS WORTH DOING POINTLESSLY”.

Buddha said:

“IF ANYTHING IS WORTH DOING, DO IT WITH ALL YOUR HEART”.

Our third friend Abraham Maslow would say:

“WHAT ONE CAN BE, ONE MUST BE”

Pause what you are doing for a minute, take a pen and paper. It is time to reflect on what it is you are doing. What are you doing at your job, your work?

Is that business you are trying to build worth it?

Is that relationship venomous?

I don’t like it when people say:

Whatever you are doing, don’t give up. Or even worse: Finish what you start!

Maybe what you started is not worth finishing!

Maybe what you are doing is not so smart or the strategy isn’t right, and you should give up, re-evaluate, re-plan, and start over.

I am currently reading the book Essentialism, and it’s a great read, I will definitely do a couple of videos on the wisdom I am getting from this book.

But the main point is very clear:

Only do what is essential.

You shouldn’t have a priority list, because the word priority literally means: something that is prior to anything else. The one and only thing that you should get done now.

There is no such thing as your 4 priorities. Maybe you have a list of four things you would like to get done, but if you have more than one priority, it actually means you have no priority at all.

So, is what you are doing right now worth pursuing with all your heart? That job, that relationship, that task?

If not, it’s ok to take the dip as Seth Godin says.
