I decided it was time that I put something else that is a very important part of my life these days ( if not the most important part) and that is my business side of life I have decided to make a daily vlog documenting my journey to entrepreneurship – Indeed I am starting a […]
Having a sound with valves that matches sound without valves is a challenge when playing the trombone. One of the reason for that is that you get more resistance. The air hits more corners and of course the tubes are longer. Improving your sound is always a priority when practicing the trombone Here are a […]
On this video, I answer to a few questions, including some on sticky notes in the middle register, and on the bending exercises that I have sent before. Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any questions
Are you a Musician or instrumentalist? This is a very interesting subject, especially for us brass players. This is because of the physicality of our instruments. It’s not so impressive to play loud, or high, or low on the piano, or on the cello. But on trumpet, if you can play very high, you’re a hero. […]
I have had good teachers and bad teachers. Without going into details about what made for a good teacher and a bad teacher, I will go straight to the most important difference. One is authoritative, the other is suggestive. Let me give you the easiest example. Two history teachers. The authoritative one and the suggestive one. […]
I have to spend a few days away from my trombone. Not really by choice, but because I had to travel last minute to come to my home town and help out my grand mother. I wasn’t really expecting to take trombone time off right now. Usually, I plan the weeks in the year where […]
Having a double buzz in our sound is a very annoying thing that comes up often for young brass players. That double buzz can come from a multitude of factors. AIR LEAKS Make sure there is no air leaking out of the instrument. Most common places for leaks are the water key and badly greased […]
BOOK OF THE WEEK I am reading this book at the moment. Crush it by Gary Vaynerchuk It’s a really cool read if you’re into that stuff. I know I am. You can get it here I wanted to write a little bit about one thing that really gave me one of those rare but […]
What is the best chapstick for musicians? That is the favorite topic for many brass and wind players. Taking care of your lips can be the difference between performing at your best and performing badly. You spend so many hours in the practice room working on your sound and on your technique, it would […]
Hi, everyone ! I hope you had a good week of practicing the previous exercises. Before we start with this week’s exercise, I would like to remind you that if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. There are no dumb questions, and I am here to help. Secondly, I wanted to […]
I thought it could be cool to introduce myself and explain a little bit who I am and what I do. As you’ll see soon, the content on my profile will be quite eclectic. So. Who am I? What am I about?
I like to think of myself as a full entity of my past present and future. In order for me to be completely fulfilled in life, I need my activities to be linked to those three categories.
First and foremost, I am a musician. I have been playing since the age of 2, and keep going at it every single day/night for hours at a time. I was in my mother’s womb for 9 months while she was playing in the orchestra/opera, and I really do think it has had an impact on how I hear/feel music. Playing music links me to my PRESENT. When I play, I cannot be anywhere else than HERE and NOW.
Recently, I have started to code. I have grew a new passion for making iPhone applications. I really do believe that coding is an art. Not because we can actually make the code look beautiful, but also because when I decide to create an app, it is to solve a problem in a creative manner. I strongly believe that every single problem in the world can be solved or at least helped out by an app. Don’t believe me? Give me a problem. I’ll give you an app. Making apps links me to the part of myself that craves to contribute in our world’s FUTURE.
Last but NOT least, I like to write. I like to write to reflect on my PAST, and to share my experiences / thoughts. I have not yet written a book, although it is high up on my goals list. For now, I have enjoyed writing for myself every morning and evening. I also started a few blogs ( http://www.betatometa.com )
